Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
