Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

As any major honors show approaches, there’s always a clamor to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles globally maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
