19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.
The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to push for a third set.
Moutet saved four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
