Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
