Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior official said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
